Our History

It's a million light years away from the company's modest origins. Nigel Woolford started his skip hire business in 1984 with just one vehicle and only 10 skips for hire.

Right from the start, Nigel painted his first skips bright yellow, so that they were easily identifiable as LSS skips - the company quickly gained a reputation across Leeds for reliability and good service. After outgrowing its first humble yard, LSS relocated to Rothwell, where it remained for 18 years.

With the introduction of the 1996 Landfill Tax, LSS developed a system to separate waste material and bought its first machinery to help process the waste more efficiently.

This greener recycling process relied upon sorting materials with man and machine - using hand-pickers and plant machinery to sort the materials into mini recycling mountains. It's a process that's still employed today at the new Cross Green Industrial Estate site, but on a much, much larger scale.
